One of Sudan’s largest camps for displaced people faces famine conditions
- Intense fighting has led to famine conditions in the Zamzam camp for internally displaced persons—home to nearly half a million people.
- 755,000 people across 10 states in Sudan are facing catastrophic levels of hunger (IPC5), and experiencing an extreme lack of food.
- “An immediate ceasefire is now more critical than ever to prevent mass deaths resulting from a hunger crisis that is rapidly spreading across Sudan,” says IRC Sudan country director, Eatizaz Yousif.
- The IRC is warning of the need to scale up humanitarian access in Sudan.
