Earthquakes strike a country already in crisis

  • Two earthquakes measuring 7.5 and 7.2 struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, killing more than 1,700 people and injuring over 5,000.
  • Before the earthquakes, nearly 8 million people in Venezuela were already in urgent humanitarian need.
  • The IRC has worked in Venezuela since 2021, reaching more than 75,000 people with vital assistance in 2025 alone.
  • Cuts to global humanitarian funding are limiting the response. The IRC is calling on the international community to urgently scale up support.
