Khalid and his family returned to their village after the defeat of ISIS in Anbar province, Iraq. Like many others who fled the war, they came home to a destroyed house and shattered livelihoods.

With support from the European Commission, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) provides temporary cash relief to help vulnerable families in Iraq recover and regain control of their lives. Providing cash instead of in-kind goods like blankets or food means that refugees can buy what they need from local shops, which benefits the economy. Most importantly, cash gives refugees the power and choice to decide for themselves what they need most.
