This year, the Refugee Youth Summer Academy (RYSA), prepared over 100 refugees and asylees youth from 24 different countries around the world, to reach success in the NYC public school system.
The RYSA class of 2016, spoke over 22 languages and students ranged in age from 4 to 19 years old. The theme of this year’s Academy was Take Flight- a challenge to all students to excel and break through barriers. Students rose to this challenge every day by bravely trying new things, learning a new language, and making new friends. The community that was built at RYSA 2016 will provide these scholars with support and guidance as they enter the NYC school system and beyond!
