Every day, International Rescue Committee staff members greet thousands of refugees arriving on the island, providing them with reliable information and guidance — commodities as valuable as food and shelter. Most of these new arrivals, while thankful for reaching dry land safely, are exhausted, wet and frightened. IRC counsellors, social workers and translators do their best to address their concerns and answer their most pressing questions.

The IRC has released results of a new survey after interviewing more than 800 Syrian refugee families, uncovering the reasons why refugees are embarking on the perilous journey to Europe.

Now more than ever, refugees need our support. When crisis and disaster erupts, families are often torn apart, parents and their children separated, homes abandoned, livelihoods left behind and futures lost.
