Protecting Milestones

For parents, seeing their child’s first smile, watching their initial wobbly steps, and hearing their child begin to form words are all precious milestones on the path to becoming an adult. But for children living in countries facing some of the world’s worst crises, malnutrition can put those precious moments at risk. In our Protecting Milestones appeal, we are asking supporters to stand with parents to help provide the solutions.

On 14th June 2022, we invited IRC supporters for a virtual field trip to Nigeria.

Below you can watch the entire session and learn from our clients, experts and IRC leaders.

Event Summary:

As a part of the Protecting Milestones appeal, IRC supporters and friends virtually visited our Stabilisation Centre in Maiduguri, a care facility where children receive treatment for malnutrition and other medical needs. What you will learn in this session:

  • Dr. Titilola Banjoko, IRC UK Board Chair, welcomed IRC supporters and introduced the Protecting Milestones appeal.
  • Babtunde Ojei, the Country Director for Nigeria, provided the context of northeast Nigeria and highlighted IRC Nigeria’s response strategies.
  • Dr. Ummi Galadima Saleh, Stabilisation Centre Doctor, and Martha David, Nutrition Manager, walked us through the Stabilisation Centre and explained how the Protecting Milestones appeal funds can further provide services to clients who are disproportionately impacted by crisis and conflict.
  • Nutrition programme clients shared their personal stories, their experience with the IRC, and their hopes for their families and communities.
