Volunteer Opportunities

Do you love kids? Would you like to have a transformative impact on our community? Can you tutor middle and/or high school refugee youth who are building new lives in Santa Clara County? By providing in-person support with schoolwork, you can empower newcomer students to build confidence, competency, and community. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) in San Jose welcomes refugees and immigrants by providing diverse services to support independence and integration. The Volunteer Tutor works with Youth Programs and will be trained by and report to the Tutoring Coordinator. The Volunteer Tutor will enhance academic success of one or more children by providing high-quality, responsive tutoring.

Immigration Interns support the Immigration Team by assisting clients of all immigration statuses with applications for permanent residency, citizenship, and family reunification. Interns help process and track cases, gain experience with naturalization procedures, and develop cross-cultural communication skills.

Digital Literacy Instructor for pre-beginner/beginner adults with a minimum level of English

The BRIDGE Youth Program pairs refugee youth ages 15–24 with community mentors who help support their academic, professional, and personal development. Mentor involvement is essential to the IRC’s mission of helping refugees and asylees thrive in San Jose.
