Learning the ropes in a new culture takes time, it can also be stressful. Newly arrived refugees can find it challenging to handle the day -to- day demands of life and understand U.S. American values and culture. Caseworkers often do not have time to help them with everyday struggles.

After you’ve attended a volunteer orientation session, we’ll send you a volunteer application to complete. You’ll be asked to return a completed application prior to your volunteer interview.
The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you regarding potential volunteer opportunities as they become available and may schedule a phone or in-person interview.
Complete a background check. The IRC kindly requests that volunteers contribute $43 toward the cost of this requirement.
You're ready to get started! Depending on your role, you'll either receive further training from your in-office department or wait to be matched with a family to tutor and/or mentor.
