This past holiday season, something special happened in our Tallahassee community.
Ian MacDonald and Jim Meade in their NoRightAngle.com woodshop created a series of handcrafted wooden bowls and platters, each piece shaped with care, patience, and intention. To complete the final sanding and finishing, they partnered with members of our local Afghan community, creating an opportunity rooted in collaboration, shared skill, and mutual respect.
Together, these handmade pieces were sold to members of the Quaker Meeting and friends across the community and the Jacksonville area. Every bowl and platter carried more than craftsmanship, it carried connection.
The proceeds from this effort, $1,200, were generously donated to the Tallahassee Neighbors Fund, helping ensure that families in our community have access to food, housing stability, and essential support during times of transition.
What makes this story meaningful is not only the funds raised, but the spirit behind them. It reflects what the Neighbors Fund is all about: neighbors showing up for neighbors, building bridges across cultures, and investing in one another’s dignity and potential.
We are deeply grateful for community members who choose to give in ways that strengthen belonging and remind us that impact often begins with simple acts of collaboration.
Because when community comes together, everyone moves forward, together.
