Ruben Chandrasekar, Director of the IRC in Maryland, with Courtney Farber, President of the 2400 Miles Foundation

Do you know where you will be one year from now? What you will be doing? I know exactly where I’ll be and what I will be doing- I will be rowing 2400+ miles across the Pacific Ocean from Monterey, CA to Honolulu, HI in a 23’ long ocean-worthy row boat as a rower in the Great Pacific Race. By that time, I will know my three teammates on team Daring Greatly, as we strive to capture the world record for a 4 woman team crossing the North Pacific, currently set at 50 days, 19 hours, and 14 minutes. There will be no sails or motor on board and we will not receive any help. Just 4 women, a ton of freeze dried food, and plenty of strength, grit and sheer determination.

My participation in the Great Pacific Race is to raise awareness of the international refugee crisis and to raise funds to support the tremendous humanitarian organizations, like the International Rescue Committee, who are working on the front lines with refugees. The mission of the 2400 Miles Foundation, the 501(c)(3) non-profit I founded, is to support organizations like the IRC who are helping those in need. Being a part of team Daring Greatly and the Great Pacific Race provides me with a platform from which to raise awareness that has an international reach.
