Do you want to put your mechanical and handy skills to work? New Roots is seeking a dedicated individual who can help maintain the beauty of our gardens through landscaping, equipment maintenance, and building relationships with our gardeners as the New Roots Farm and Garden Assistant.

This is a flexible, part-time position scheduled from June until the end of November with 10-15 hours per week. The New Roots Farm and Garden Assistant is responsible for maintaining the farm and community gardens. Some duties include operating and maintaining farm systems such as irrigation and mowing, repairing and maintaining equipment such as weed-eaters and water pumps, and transporting supplies with the IRC truck. This position also calls for logistical and administrative responsibilities such as maintaining a regular maintenance schedule for the IRC truck, providing training and onsite support in safe use of equipment to farmers, gardeners, and volunteers, and coordinating activities with the New Roots team members.

As more refugees rely on community garden plots due to food insecurity and financial hardships following COVID-19, we want to ensure that the farm and community gardens are ready and available for refugee gardeners. Having someone maintain the gardens with mechanical and logistical support will assure safe, healthy, and productive practices for our refugee gardeners so that they can grow fresh food, especially during the busy growing season.

Anyone interested can find the full job posting and application on the IRC Career website.
