The inclusion of therapeutic activities in a community gathering opens up the space for engaged conversations and meaningful connections. Wellness activities can range in their therapist potential. On April 31st, the Safety and Wellness Department partnered with the New York Public Library (NYPL) Tompkins’s Square branch on a workshop to build community and create art with individuals from Ukraine who had recently arrived in the United States. This was a meaningful activity for the Ukrainian community and one that the IRC in NY hopes to do again!  

The report highlights six interconnected themes: understanding the system, ownership, collaborative partnership, adaptive management, co-design for scale, and investment for scale.

Little is known about types and drivers of violence and interventions to reduce violence among displaced and host populations in urban areas. To this end, the IRC conducted a systematic review to research the current state of knowledge regarding the drivers of violence, the contributing factors of violence or rights violations, and programming to address violence among displaced and host populations in crisis and post-crisis urban areas.

In 2015, the IRC in NY began a new program to serve unaccompanied minors as part of a partnership with Heartland Alliance.  Unaccompanied minors are undocumented children who have entered the United States without a parent or legal guardian and then enter the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement.  

The International Rescue Committee filed an amicus brief in support of this litigation and the national injunction on June 2, with partners. This brief reinforces our commitment to the US refugee resettlement system, the communities where we work, and the refugees who seek to rebuild their lives here in safety and freedom.
