COMMITMENT
Volunteers: Minimum 4 hours per week
Interns: Minimum 15 hours per week for at least 4 full months, or 240 hours total
Scope of Work
Anti-trafficking case management programs provide direct assistance to survivors of trafficking, build awareness of human trafficking through public events, and train organizations to better serve survivors of labor and sex trafficking. The Anti-Trafficking Casework Intern will assist clients with self-sufficiency milestones. Duties will include connecting clients with appropriate resources for personal needs, including but not limited to housing, medical, legal, and safety. This position will also look to expand current networks and partnerships to better serve our clients.
BACKGROUND
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 45 countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home. Domestically, our 29 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate with staff to ensure appropriate services are being received.
- Assist in the process of connecting clients with resources, such as secure housing, medical needs, safety protocols, and other essential services.
- Maintain client case notes, track service provision and other administrative duties
- Occasionally perform outreach activities and educate community members about human trafficking.
- Maintain a professional attitude and appearance as an IRC representative.
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong verbal and written skills in Spanish, Mam, or K’iche
- Enthusiastic about helping others, and the desire to meet high needs of clients
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills: the ability to work sensitively with clients, partners, and colleagues in a cross cultural, multi-disciplinary environment
- The ability to think creatively and problem-solve effectively
- Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time and meet deadlines; the ability to think creatively and problem-solve effectively
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
- Familiarity with programs like Microsoft Teams and Zoom and ability to report consistently to teammates
- Ownership of a driver’s license, vehicle, auto insurance and clean driving record are a plus
This position reports to the Anti-Trafficking Supervisor and or Anti-Trafficking Caseworker
- This is an unpaid volunteer / intern opportunity
- Acceptance is contingent upon clearing a $40 background check
- Internships are available for current college students starting their second year, graduate students, and graduates within 2 years of graduation.
- Course credit is available if the student coordinates with their university and confirms the appropriate paperwork with the IRC Volunteer Coordinator.
