The IRC was honored to join advocates from across Washington state for Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Days 2021, organized by Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN). Together, participants virtually met with the offices of 98 state lawmakers— nearly 2/3 of the legislature—in support of policies that will protect and advance the rights of refugee and immigrant communities. Unemployment benefits for undocumented workers, health equity and healthcare access for immigrants, and ending for-profit detention were among the top policy priorities. People directly impacted by these policies shared their personal experiences, including how the pandemic has exacerbated existing inequities in our state.

While Advocacy Days may be over, the legislation session continues! Follow WAISN to stay up-to-date on ways to take action in support of refugee and immigrant communities in Washington.
