IRC Tallahassee, Florida

Today, El Mana Enterprise is a proud local business in Tallahassee, offering home repair, maintenance, pressure washing, and painting services across the community. Behind this growing company is Alfredo Alcazar, a determined entrepreneur who has turned resilience into opportunity.

Alfredo is known by his neighbors as a man of integrity and hard work, someone who shows up, follows through, and gives back. Just two years ago, however, his life looked very different.

From Crisis to Courage

Originally from Colombia, Alfredo once managed a successful cardboard manufacturing business and lived a peaceful life with his wife and children. But in September 2022, everything changed.

After witnessing two murders near his home and reporting the crime, his family became the target of threats and attempted break-ins. Even after relocating to Ecuador, danger followed them, and Alfredo knew he could no longer keep his family safe there.

My son would wake up screaming at night from the trauma. We lived in constant fear, but I knew I had to stay strong for my family.

Through humanitarian partners and after months of uncertainty, Alfredo’s family received refugee resettlement approval to the United States, a turning point that would lead them to safety and new beginnings.

A New Beginning with the IRC

In August 2023, the Alcazar family arrived in Tallahassee. At the airport, IRC staff welcomed them with warmth and care, leading them to a fully furnished home ready for their arrival.

The IRC provided the family with the essential tools to rebuild their lives, from health coverage and school enrollment to employment assistance and community orientation.

“The IRC has been with us every step of the way,” Alfredo shares. “They helped us start a new chapter — one filled with hope, safety, and the opportunity to dream again.”

Rebuilding a Dream

With guidance and encouragement from IRC caseworkers, Alfredo reignited his passion for entrepreneurship. Drawing from his skills and experience, he founded El Mana Enterprise, a name that symbolizes divine provision and new beginnings.

Today, Alfredo’s business is thriving. He is expanding his client base, employing others, and proudly contributing to the same community that once helped him stand on his feet.

“I’m very happy to have my own business again,” Alfredo says with pride. “It feels like a new beginning for me and my family. I want others to know that starting over is possible.”

A Story of Strength and Community

Alfredo’s story embodies what’s possible when resilience meets opportunity. With the support of the IRC and the Tallahassee community, he transformed loss into leadership, and is now paying it forward, one project and one family at a time.

The IRC gave us more than help. They gave us hope, and now we’re building our future.
