The International Rescue Committee in Iowa is estimated to receive more than 400 refugees in 2024. We will be welcoming clients in Des Moines, as well as expanding our services into Marshalltown and Iowa City. Please consider making a donation of essential goods that all of our clients need in order to be successful in their first several weeks as new Iowans. Your partnership and support in providing WARM WELCOMES to our new neighbors is so appreciated and will go a long way as we work to integrate them into the community.

There are three ways to help! Please find a summary of these below.

1) Purchase items from one or more of the 4 wish lists below, and the items will be sent directly to our office! A receipt can be emailed or mailed to you.

Kitchen

Household

Hygiene

Cleaning

2) Donate a Welcome Kit!

Welcome Kits are themed totes that help us provide all the needed essentials for a certain purpose. For example, a School Supply kit would consist of a backpack stuffed with all the school supplies a young person would need as they enter the public school system. Another example would be a Bathroom Kit. This kit would include things like a shower curtain, a bath mat, toilet paper, and a few other essentials. Welcome Kits range from items like those listed above to kitchen supplies, hygiene items, and cleaning products.

3) Make a monetary donation today!

Funds will support basic needs like the ones listed in our welcome kits, but will also help pay for rent and first month's deposit, transportation, clothing and more. Visit this webpage to make your donation, or mail checks to our office at 108 3rd Street, Suite 200, Des Moines, IA 50309
