As the new school year begins, we at the IRC in Atlanta are looking forward to welcoming a new class of brilliant Youth Futures students at Clarkston High School. But before kicking off a new year of learning, our Youth team said goodbye to 33 accomplished students who all successfully graduated in May! These graduates have shown incredible work ethic and dedication throughout their high school journey and collectively earned 53 college acceptances to schools across the Southeast!

Collectively, our students received 53 acceptances to the following colleges:

Agnes Scott College, Augusta University, Berry College, Brenau University, Columbus State University, Drake University, Georgia Gwinnett College, Georgia Military College, Georgia Piedmont Technical College, Georgia State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Ivy Tech Community College, Kennesaw State University, Mercer University, Oglethorpe University, Paine College, Piedmont University, Spelman College, Toccoa Falls College, University of Georgia, Valdosta University, Young Harris College

Valedictorian and Scholarships

This year, we are thrilled to announce that IRC Youth Futures student, Meron Ayecheh, was selected as the Clarkston High School Valedictorian! Alongside Meron, three other Youth Futures students—Abdullah Al Salkhadi, Ram Tha (Sarah) Par, and Maysa Osman—finished the school year in the top 10% of the Clarkston High School graduating class. Youth Futures students also received scholarships, including the Zell Miller and HOPE scholarships, the P. Phashions Scholarship, the State Farm LIFT Scholarship, the Agnes Scott Innovation Scholarship, and Presidential Scholarships from Mercer University, Georgia State University, and Toccoa Falls College.

“I feel quite prepared to start college because of all the amazing mentors that have taught me so much.”
— Maysa Osman, Youth Futures alum

In addition to attending our Youth Futures afterschool program for several years, Maysa participated in our Ready, Set, College! summer camp—fully funded by generous IRC supporters—where she worked closely and diligently with staff and volunteers on her college and scholarship applications. “IRC'S Ready, Set, College! summer camp has helped me tremendously figure how to write an epic admission essay, and most importantly how to figure a way to fund my education,” Maysa shared. “All of these resources that have been provided to me makes me optimistic about my future in college.” Reflecting on her next steps, Maysa shared, “I feel quite prepared to start college because of all the amazing mentors that have taught me so much. And it’s important to me to go to college so that I can be the first in my family to get a degree and to pave the road to my younger siblings to follow on my footsteps.”

Maysa will begin her college career in Fall 2022 and plans to study biomedical science. She shared, “I grew up in a developing country with poor healthcare accessibility and that inspired me to study biomedical science and enterprise so that I can advocate for healthcare equity worldwide and make a change.” We are so proud of Maysa for all her hard work and accomplishments!
