Nazir was the Managing intern for the IRC in NY Education & Learning department. In this role, Nazir supported the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) program, including helping children from over 20 countries receive academic and social-emotional learning during the summer of 2022.

As a child, when Nazir lived in Afghanistan, he participated in one of the IRC-led Education programs. There, he learned and practiced conversational English and phonics. From this experience practicing English with peers and teachers, Nazir became interested in contributing to global education programs. He became motivated to join the IRC and to serve communities with the same care and tailored support he received as a young child. Nazir's goals grew and he made strides to support his community from the grassroots level.

Through his experiences, Nazir understood education as a pathway for many youths and found it key to their development and learning growth. This all lead to Nazir founding an English Learning institute and a private school for children in Afghanistan prior to his move to the United States. Despite the restrictions on girls' education, his foundations helped hundreds of male and female students who wanted to learn English, Computer, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Arts. Nazir is devoted to building a society where women have unhindered access to education, work, and development opportunities. These institutions were instrumental in his community and provided teaching and administrative jobs for women.

During his internship with the Education & Learning department, Nazir supported the IRC in NY's 2022 Newcomer Youth Summer Academy (NYSA) program.

At NYSA, he was proud of the students and saw how happy they were to learn each day and create meaningful connections with their peers. Academics in the United States are especially challenging for many immigrant students who had recently arrived and are still improving their English. This challenge was also the experience of Afghan children. During his internship, Nazir helped ensure every student was supported and valued.

Nazir is a Fulbright scholar at the University of Missouri, where he is pursuing a master's in public affairs. While millions of children are out of school in Afghanistan, he advocates for education.

Nazir strongly believes in the value of education for girls and boys and finds it essential for girls' education to not go in vain. After his program, he aims to widen his talents and efforts to support global education and to help more and more children attend school.
