This winter, the IRC in Dallas is calling on our community to help newcomer families gain mobility, independence, and confidence through our Bicycle Drive, running from November 10th to December 17th. For many recently arrived refugees and immigrants, reliable transportation is one of the biggest barriers to rebuilding life in a new city. A bicycle can mean so much more than a way to get from one place to another—it can mean access to work, school, appointments, and the freedom to explore their new home.
We are collecting bicycles, helmets, and knee pads to support both adults and older youth (ages 16-24), with a focus on standard and adult-sized bikes while still welcoming a range of sizes. Whether it’s a gently used bike or a new set of safety gear, your donation helps equip individuals with the tools they need to travel with confidence. Every contribution—large or small—helps newcomers save money, connect with their community, and move forward on their path to self-reliance.
Through this drive, we hope to empower families with not just mobility, but a sense of joy and normalcy. For many children, receiving a bicycle is a cherished moment of independence and fun; for parents, it’s a practical solution to getting to work or appointments affordably. Together, we can make a tangible difference that lasts far beyond the holiday season.
Donations can be dropped off at the IRC in Dallas office during regular business hours throughout November and December. If you’d like to coordinate a large donation or group collection, please contact our team at Development.IRCDallas@rescue.org
Join us in helping families ride toward opportunity this winter—because when we share what we have, we move forward together.
