Thanksgiving: welcoming refugees to Abilene

As the holiday season begins, the IRC in Abilene has an opportunity to welcome our local refugee population celebrating their first Thanksgiving with them.

This Thanksgiving, will you consider partnering with us by providing the IRC with gift cards so that we can make their first Thanksgiving truly special?

Getting to include Thanksgiving in our holiday celebrations with the refugee community is appropriate. Sharing food with refugees recently arrived from a different country mirrors the first Thanksgiving so well.

Each family will recieve all that they will need to cook a Thanksgiving meal--including a turkey.

The biggest help is donated gift cards to Walmart, United, or HEB as well as monetary donations so that we can purchase the turkeys for the families.

We are also accepting donations of nonperishable and canned items like:

Corn, green beans, stuffing, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, oil, sugar, salt and pepper, pans, canned pumpkin, canned cranberries, broth, cream of mushroom soup, yams, cream of chicken soup, and gravy.

We will be accepting items through 11/21 for Thanksgiving baskets.

You may drop off gift cards and nonperishables during normal business hours (8:30-4:30 M-F) at the IRC in Abilene office located at 3305 N. 3rd St. Suite 320 Abilene, TX 79603.
