On Wednesday, June 14, The Big Sick Comedy Tour came to Los Angeles and the IRC was there.

As a charity benefactor, the IRC partnered with the tour to promote the upcoming movie ‘The Big Sick,’ a modern day rom-com inspired by star and creator Kumail Nanjiani’s relationship with his now-wife (and The Big Sick co-writer) Emily V. Gordon. The film brings to life the emotional back-and-forth Kumail battled between his feelings for Emily, a Caucasian-American woman, and his traditional Pakistani-Muslim parents’ beliefs and expectations.

Alongside Nanjiani, the show also featured stand-up performances by cast members Ray Romano, Kurt Braunohler, and producer Judd Apatow, followed by a Q&A session with Gordon and other cast and creators Holly Hunter, Zoe Kazan, and Michael Showalter. There were a lot of laughs and the audience members also shared their own impactful movie-worthy stories in solidarity.  We had twenty GenR: LA members in the audience. It was great to see so many of us out to support this fantastic show.

Catch ‘The Big Sick’ in New York and Los Angeles on June 23, and other select cities starting June 30.
