Right now, more than 122 million people around the world are displaced by crisis, the highest number ever recorded. As humanitarian needs rise, funding from governments has been slashed—but your generosity can make a real difference when it matters most.

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a smart, flexible and tax-advantaged way to give that combines thoughtful planning with the ability to make an immediate impact. At the International Rescue Committee (IRC), DAF donations power lifesaving work—from emergency crisis response to empowering families affected by crisis to reclaim their futures.

What is a donor-advised fund (DAF)?

A donor-advised fund (DAF) is like your own charitable savings account, created to support the causes you care about most. Many national investment firms and community foundations offer DAFs, and most donors can open one alongside their brokerage account.

For IRC supporters, it provides the flexibility to respond quickly to crises while continuing to plan strategically for long-term philanthropic goals.

How a DAF works

  1. ContributeYou make a donation to your donor-advised fund using cash, stocks or other appreciated assets.
  2. Receive Tax Benefits—Your contribution may qualify for an immediate charitable tax deduction. You’ll receive a tax receipt from your DAF provider upon making a contribution.
  3. Recommend Grants—You choose when and where to direct your DAF funds, recommending grants to organizations like the IRC.
  4. Create Impact—Your DAF gifts help deliver emergency relief, rebuild communities and provide long-term support for displaced families worldwide.

With a DAF, you can combine careful planning with quick action—supporting urgent needs today while sustaining humanitarian solutions for tomorrow. Unrestricted grants allow the IRC to direct support to where it’s needed most.

Why give to the International Rescue Committee through a donor-advised fund (DAF)?

Your donor-advised fund can help transform lives when directed to the IRC. Each grant fuels vital programs that provide safety, dignity and hope to millions of people displaced by conflict and disaster.

The IRC consistently earns top marks from independent evaluators for transparency, accountability, and impact—so you can give with confidence, knowing your funds go where they’re needed most.

Six-year-old Fidiya has made a full recovery after developing bilateral pitting oedema, a severe condition that causes swelling in different parts of her body due to acute malnutrition. She received life-saving treatment at an IRC health facility in Ethiopia and is excited to play with her friends again.
