The IRC Small Business Development Center (SBDC) – San Diego
Supporting Entrepreneurs. Strengthening Communities.
At the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in San Diego, we believe that entrepreneurship is a powerful tool for economic empowerment, especially for refugees, immigrants, and underserved communities.
Through the IRC Small Business Development Center (SBDC), we provide free, culturally responsive, in-language services that help aspiring and established entrepreneurs launch and grow successful businesses. Our work not only supports individual livelihoods — it strengthens entire communities.
What We Offer:
One-on-One Technical Assistance:
Our experienced advisors provide personalized, in-language business counseling to help entrepreneurs successfully plan, launch, and grow their businesses.
Business Training:
We provide practical, accessible training workshops in multiple languages, covering topics like business planning, marketing, bookkeeping, licensing, and more — all designed to help entrepreneurs succeed in today’s economy.
Access to Capital
Through strategic partnerships, we connect small business owners with microloans and financial resources that support long-term growth. Our business advisors work closely with entrepreneurs to package their loan requests, develop comprehensive business plans, prepare credit memos, and guide them through the entire loan application process.
Special Events & Community Engagement
From business showcases to community markets and educational events, we create spaces where local entrepreneurs can connect with supporters, build networks, and celebrate their successes.
Our Focus Areas Include:
- Childcare Business Development
- Access to Microfinance & Capital
- Low to moderate-income and diverse background entrepreneurs and small business owners
- Support for Refugee & Immigrant-Owned Businesses
Who We Serve:
The IRC SBDC primarily serves refugee, immigrant, and low-income entrepreneurs — individuals who often face systemic barriers to accessing capital, business education, and professional networks.
To ensure equitable access, all services are available in the following languages:
English, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, Spanish, French, Swahili, Pashto, Somali, Ukrainian, Russian.
Why It Matters?
By investing in refugee and immigrant entrepreneurs, we’re investing in the future of San Diego. Local small businesses create jobs, build generational wealth, and contribute to the vibrancy of our neighborhoods.
Your support helps make this work possible.
