Dnipro, Ukraine, December 8, 2025 — Weekend Russian attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk region targeted one of the largest pharmaceutical warehouses in the country, completely destroying stockpiles of essential humanitarian aid and leaving thousands of vulnerable people at even greater risk this winter. The International Rescue Committee (IRC) alone has lost 195,000 USD worth of medication and supplies, which could have served 30,000 people in need.
The Dnipro facility served as a critical hub for hospitals, healthcare providers, pharmacies and humanitarian actors, ensuring safe storage of all types of medication, including chronic treatments, but also essential medical supplies for ICUs, surgeries, and emergency care.
Dr. Marko Isajlovic, Health Coordinator with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) Ukraine, says:
“This latest attack on one of the country’s largest pharmaceutical warehouses is unacceptable. While the full scale of destruction is still being assessed, we are witnessing a dangerous trend of indiscriminate winter strikes on healthcare that cripple lifesaving operations and deepen an already severe health crisis.
“The IRC alone has lost supplies which would allow us to help 30,000 people in need, but even items that were not directly damaged during the attack will need to be discarded due to exposure to extreme conditions such as heat, water, cold, and explosive particles, posing not only a severe health risk but also an environmental hazard.”
Andrii Moskalenko, IRC’s Ukraine Country Pharmacist, adds:
“When I arrived at the site, I was devastated-the scene was simply awful. All of this medicine could have served people for years, and in a single moment, it was all lost, billions of hryvnias worth of supplies gone.”
As Ukraine continues to suffer from intensified barrages of missile and drone strikes and widespread destruction, people in rural and frontline communities face increasing difficulty accessing the healthcare they need. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukraine has endured over 2,400 attacks on health care, with more than 1,000 directly damaging or destroying hospitals.
