Refugee Women Empowered by Career Link Program
When Miriam Barnes first came to the IRC, she was timid and shy, unsure of herself and nervous about communicating. Through strong encouragement from IRC staff and active participation in program activities, Miriam now walks into the IRC office with a new sense of confidence and pride, announcing her new career successes with a smile on her face.

Stories of Welcome: A mentor becomes a friend
When Robert Sebatware met Dave Kurz, he and his wife had just arrived in the U.S. as refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Robert hoped his new friend, an IRC staff member, could mentor him in the ways of America. Years later, Robert is the one helping newcomers to America and the two men and their families have developed a bond that goes beyond friendship.
