Overview: Volunteers will support permanent IRC staff in their role. Volunteers will assist in tasks such as crowd control, arranging travel accommodations, as well as picking up meals for clients. Volunteers will not be doing any intakes or reviewing personal documents or information from the clients. Volunteers will be welcoming and friendly through non-intrusive communication. It is important to note that interactions with clients are brief as this is only a transition space between being released from a detention center and their destination.
Activities:
- Set up assigned room with necessary equipment (such as backpacks, VOCA workbooks, charging station, pens, etc)
- Greeting clients once they come into the assigned space at the Glendale IRC office
- Pickup and provide hot meals for clients from SVDP
- Triage client's needs and assist in travel accommodations (Greyhound tickets or flights)
- Crowd control and walking clients out of the building when necessary
- Drive clients to bus station or airport when necessary
- Help clean and put away equipment at the end of the shift
- Other tasks may come up as necessary
Requirements:
- Ability to obtain a Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Ability to pass IRC background check
- Language skills preferred but not required
