Location: Hybrid - Sacramento, CA
Duration: Internships require a commitment of 4 months, 15 hours/week, or minimum of 240 hours total.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The IRC Sacramento Community Wellness department provides culturally and linguistically appropriate psychosocial, mental health, and wellness programming to refugee and immigrant communities. Services include Health Coaching sessions, group wellness sessions, parenting workshops, newcomer support, and youth mental health promotion. The Community Wellness Intern will assist Community Wellness staff in the planning, outreach, implementation, and documentation of Community Wellness programs. The intern will support Arabic-speaking newcomers participating in programs such Parent/Caregiver Support Groups.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with program logistics, outreach, and registration for Community Wellness group sessions;
- Support facilitators with virtual/in-person setup, participant tracking, and preparation of materials;
- Maintain accurate attendance records and assist with data entry and grant-required documentation;
- Provide Arabic–English translation and interpretation for outreach materials and participant communication;
- Communicate with Arabic-speaking clients using culturally respectful and trauma-informed approaches;
- Participate in weekly team check-ins and provide administrative and logistical support as needed;
- Assist in collecting participant feedback and contribute to program evaluation and improvement;
- Create PowerPoint presentations for mental health and health promotion programs;
- Gather information about existing mental health resources in Sacramento City to support program referrals and resource navigation;
- Create trackers and support data management systems to improve program organization, reporting, and documentation;
- Other duties as assigned by the Community Wellness Supervisor.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Public Health, Psychology, Social Work, Education, Public Policy, or related fields;
- Strong organizational and communication skills;
- Arabic language fluency required. Additional languages such as Dari or Pashto are a plus;
- Technologically savvy; experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Zoom required;
- Ability to design clear and engaging presentations;
- Positive attitude, proactive, and detail-oriented;
- Able to maintain confidentiality and follow IRC policies and procedures;
- Flexibility and willingness to support multiple Community Wellness activities.
