BACKGROUND: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst

humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in more than 40

countries and 29 U.S. cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to

home. Domestically, our 25 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and

clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.

SCOPE OF INTERN WORK: To provide support to the Finance team In California Cluster with their

day-to-day needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Establish, clean up and maintain an efficient filing system for the Finance Team.

• Provide support and help the Finance team to prepare monthly reports to Donors

• Verify the accuracy of various financial and statistical reports and records.

• Maintain positive working relationship with all those contacted over the day’s activities

including outside agencies.

• Any other finance related tasks assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least two semesters of accounting course at either a two year or four-year higher

learning institution.

• Expert knowledge of excel for data entry and reporting (required)

• Ability to work independently.

• Ability to work under pressure with conflicting deadlines.

• Experience working cross culturally

This position reports to the Finance Manager.

• This is an unpaid internship requiring a minimum of 240 hours to be completed during

business hours 9a-5p, M-F.

• Placement is dependent on completion of a background check a the cost of $40.

• Work related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the IRS Charitable Rate.

• Internships are available for current college students starting in their second year, graduate

students, and graduates less than 2 years post-graduation. Course credit is available if the

student coordinates with their university and confirms the appropriate paperwork with the

Volunteer Coordinator.
