Location: Remote - San Jose, CA and Oakland, CA
Duration: Minimum 15 hours/week during working hours (M-F, 9am-5pm). Regular schedule required. Minimum 10-week commitment. Remote work.  

This is an unpaid internship requiring a minimum of 240 hours to be completed during business hours 9a-5p, M-F.

Placement is dependent on completion of a background check at a cost of $40.

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 40 countries worldwide. The IRC also provides support to thousands of refugees resettling in 29 U.S. cities each year through initial housing assistance; case management and referral services; job readiness and placement; community and cultural orientation; health and wellness programs; immigration services; and youth programs. 

SCOPE OF WORK

The Grant Intern will work alongside the Bay Area Grants Team to help secure funding for our various programs. Specific responsibilities of interns will include: 

 

  • Researching, reviewing, and summarizing potential grant opportunities
  • Assisting with data entry and analysis to support grant management and reporting
  • Organizing and maintaining electronic grant files and documentation
  • Tracking and monitoring of projects on Asana to ensure compliance 
  • Developing detailed profiles of prospective grant makers and funding sources
  • Creating and updating boilerplate content for proposals
  • Assisting with the creation of training materials for staff
  • Assisting in the writing and editing of grant proposals 
  • Providing overall support to the Grants Team as needed 

Learning Objectives: 

  • Build practical skills in grant research, prospecting, and administrative support
  • Understand the full lifecycle of grant funding, from identification to post-award management
  • Strengthen data management and analysis skills using tools like Asana
  • Develop an understanding of how an international humanitarian organization operates 
     

REQUIREMENTS:


• Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills, demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment;
• Must be comfortable with donor outreach via phone and email;
• Digital fluency with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Proficient in digital communications and technology with strong organizational skills;
• Availability during IRC’s standard business hours (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) is required.
