SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:
The IRC’s ICM Program serves refugees with high barriers to self-sufficiency, using a client-centered and strengths-focused approach to assist clients with meeting their goals. This includes children and adults with serious medical conditions and mental health needs, clients affected by gender-based violence, LGBTQ clients, the elderly, single parents and women-at-risk.
Location:
Hybrid, IRC NorCal
Time Commitment:
Interns- 15hrs/week for at least 4 months. Longer volunteer commitments encouraged.
Volunteers- minimum 4hrs/week for at least 4 months. Longer volunteer commitments encouraged.
Responsibilities:
Assist case workers and attorneys with:
- Translation of client documents
- Interpretation during client meetings (both in the office and at off-site locations)
Skills/Qualifications
- · Fluency in Spanish ·
- Availability for approx. 5-10 hours per month ·
- Access to a vehicle or transportation to relevant locations
- Strong communication skills (both interpersonal and with supervisors)
- Great attention to detail and organizational skill
- Strong sense of personal initiative and ability to work independently in a fast paced office
- Computer literacy with PC systems and software
- Experience working with multi-cultural populations
- Ability to adjust as needed to changing circumstances
