Note: This is an unpaid volunteer position.
Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 50+ countries worldwide. The IRC also provides support to thousands of refugees resettling in 29 U.S. cities each year through initial housing assistance; case management and referral services; job readiness and placement; community and cultural orientation; health and wellness programs; immigration services; and youth programs.
Position Summary: Produce Delivery Assistants support the Food Access Specialist in the delivery of produce to various hunger-relief organizations throughout South and East King County, including Kent, Tukwila, Auburn, Kirkland, Renton, and various sites in Seattle. This volunteer position interacts closely with farmers, staff, and partner organizations.
Location: Horseneck Farm (26826 86th Ave S, Kent, WA 98030) and other sites around South and East King County.
Time Commitment: 5-10 hours/week during IRC office hours (M-F, 10am-4pm). Regular schedule required. Minimum 3 month commitment.
Responsibilities:
- Support farmers and staff at farm with washing, packing, counting, and organizing produce to prepare for deliveries.
- Deliver to various partner organization sites in a timely manner according to the sites’ delivery window.
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment
- Uphold IRC New Roots’ values of respect, inclusion, and community-centered service
Skills/Qualifications:
- Friendly, reliable, and comfortable interacting with diverse community members
- Ability to lift up to 30–50 lbs
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to follow procedures and maintain accurate records
- Clean driving record
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be punctual
- No prior experience required — training provided
