Corporate Engagement Opportunities

The IRC in New York is pleased to provide our local and national partners with opportunities to engage meaningfully and directly with our work. 

New Roots Community Farm, Workday 

Number of Volunteers: 10-15

Length of time: 3 hours

Possible dates: April – October (Fridays) Based on availability.

Description: The New Roots Community Farm (NRCF) is a ½ acre urban farm on the Grand Concourse, a main thoroughfare in the Bronx. This South Bronx-based urban green space serves over 30 families as well as students from several neighborhood schools. Program participants work together to start seeds in the greenhouse, create compost to nourish garden beds, care for native plant gardens, harvest fresh fruits and vegetables and tend two honey bee hives. The NRCF provides access to healthy, nutritious food for program participants and the broader South Bronx community.

Youth Program, Career Visit (hosted at your company)

Number of Volunteers:  up to 10               

Length of time: 2 hours up to a full day

Possible dates: Academic Year. Full days only possible during school breaks.

Description: Volunteers host a group of 10-15 leadership program youth to visit their workplace, learn about the industry, types of jobs held in various departments, and career pathways of volunteers. Some visits may include experiential activities to immerse students in the work (such as a mock trial at a law firm). Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet with students. Each volunteer will introduce their specific line of expertise and discuss career pathways in their field to experience a ‘speed networking’ style event.

Job Readiness Workshop(s)

Number of Volunteers: 8-10

Length of time: 2-4 hours

Possible dates: Based on availability

Description: Employees will introduce adult asylee and refugee clients to the American job market. A few areas of focus can include resume and job interview preparation. Employees will have one-on-one mock interview sessions with IRC clients, giving them the opportunity to improve their job interview skills.

Citizenship or Green Card Application Workshop(s) 

Number of Volunteers: 10-12

Length of time: 5-6 hours

Possible dates: Open

Description: After one year in the U.S. refugees are required by law to apply for their green card. Four years later, they are eligible for citizenship. These processes begin by filling out various application forms, which can be a long and confusing task for immigrants without support. Volunteers will help refugee & immigrant clients complete the forms and then preview the citizenship test and interview. This workshop includes a 1-hour review and training as part of the event.

*NOTE: We respectfully request a minimum contribution of $5,000 per day. This donation is used to cover the costs of planning and hosting the event as well as to provide additional funding to fill in the host program’s funding gaps.
