SCOPE OF VOLUNTEER WORK:

Refugee and New Americans who are driven and inspired to start or expand their economic opportunities in the United States, are often confronted with barriers. Learning a new language, a new way of life, while also following a new set of rules and laws, particularly around personal finances and money, can be overwhelming. The Financial Capability Instructor will work closely with the IRC in Salt Lake City's Financial Coaches to provide individual and group instruction to refugees and New Americans as they work towards starting their business, saving to buy cars or homes, or participating in career development programs.

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Available Thursdays from 3:30pm to 5pm to volunteer in a classroom setting with IRC staff members
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be culturally sensitive; experience with diverse and vulnerable populations preferred
  • Able to communicate effectively with people of different linguistic backgrounds
  • Organized with excellent time management skills
  • Patient, flexible, and independent with a good sense of humor
  • Fluency in written and spoken English, bilingual in any refugee language preferred

  • Ability to drive a vehicle is preferred, in which case, you must have proof of insurance and a good driving record
