Background: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 50+ countries worldwide. The IRC also provides support to thousands of refugees resettling in 29 U.S. cities each year through initial housing assistance; case management and referral services; job readiness and placement; community and cultural orientation; health and wellness programs; immigration services; and youth programs.
Scope of Volunteer Work: IRC Seattle serves immigrants in Western Washington who have been exposed to various forms of violence. While it is impossible to wholly meet the community's need for Health & Wellness programming, the Client Resource Referrals Volunteer will provide waitlisted individuals basic referral assistance. This volunteer will speak with waitlisted clients to get a basic understanding of the individuals' needs and provide appropriate referrals to outside referrals and resources while they wait to be matched with an IRC caseworker. Training will be provided, including on using telephonic interpretation services, and in introduction to services to where the community could be referred.
Location: Remote
Time Commitment: 2 hours per week, per volunteer's availability/convenience, six-month minimum commitment required.
