IRC in San Diego's Immigration Department provides accessible and critical representation to immigrants and their families to help them obtain the highest level of immigration status available, keep families together, access and be aware of their full rights, and successfully integrate into the US. 

Scope of Work

Volunteers for IRC in San Diego's Immigration Services Department will provide on-site critical administrative support in the City Heights office. The Department assists hundreds of clients a year with obtaining or maintaining lawful immigration status. 

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Update IRC client case files and department database
  • Create and file case materials
  •  Schedule clients for immigration legal service appointments
  • Sorting critical department mail
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to take direction and complete tasks independently
  • Must be punctual and dependable for a minimum 10 hrs per week
  • Prior customer service experience or the ability to work well with others of varied backgrounds
  • Experience with Microsoft Office
  • Proficiency in a second language (especially Amharic, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, French, Karen, Pashto, Spanish, Somali, Swahili, Tagalog, Urdu or Vietnamese)
  • No driving requirement. Volunteers will report to the Immigration Coordinator.
  • The department requires a 3-month volunteer commitment due to the training this support requires.
