This month, fifteen English as a Second Language students toured the neighboring Elizabeth Police Department to learn about Elizabeth’s local safety services. Clients enjoyed a thorough tour of the facility from the Elizabeth Police Department’s chief of police. The police chief answered many client questions as they learned about community safety, police services, and who to call in an emergency. Robert Santiago, the economic empowerment supervisor in the Elizabeth Resettlement Office, applauded the “very successful” event, and appreciated the Elizabeth Police Department instructional hosting of IRC clients.

Later in June, the IRC in Elizabeth accompanied clients to a local fire department for fire safety instruction, including what do to in an emergency and who to call, and how to ensure carbon monoxide and smoke detectors are used correctly. Thank you to the IRC in Elizabeth’s staff for their hard work in ensuring client safety and in fostering community engagement!
