In December, community members showed their commitment to welcoming refugees by sponsoring newly arrived families and individuals during the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Salt Lake City’s annual gift drive, Light One Candle.

Over 70 families, friends, church or civic groups and business organizations came together to gather items that refugee families prioritized on their wish lists, such as laptops, clothing, and household items. Over 110 newly arrived refugee families and individuals received items, and through community sponsor efforts, over $62,000 worth of in-kind donations were distributed between December 1st and January 6th to these families.

We are grateful for community members who support our work and the refugees we serve each year. These donation efforts help as newly arrived refugees begin to take control of their futures and become self-sufficient in their new homes.

Light One Candle sponsorships for 2020 will be available in November. Learn more about Light One Candle.
