Here's how to help refugees this holiday season

1. Adopt A Family

To help spread holiday cheer and the generosity of our community, the IRC matches supporters with newly-arrived refugee families. Adopting a child or family not only provides much needed items, but also creates a sense of giving and community. Refugee families usually live on a very tight budget, so putting together a holiday celebration can be a real challenge for some. Help a family feel welcomed this holiday by visiting Sign Up Genius to Adopt A Family for the holidays.

2. Donate electronics

Are you upgrading your electronics during Black Friday? You can turn your old electronics into an upgrade of a lifetime for a refugee family. TVs, microwaves, vacuums, tablets, laptops and kitchen appliances (blenders, coffee makers, rice cookers, etc) are all needed. Items should be in working and usable condition. Donations can be dropped off at the IRC in Wichita (1530 S Oliver, Suite 270).

3. Provide new blankets

Bring donations of new blankets to the IRC in Wichita through the end of December. For many refugees coming from central Africa, this is the first cold winter they've experienced. To help keep heating costs down, extra blankets are needed.

The downtown Starbucks (401 E Douglas Ave), pick a tag off the Giving Wreath, purchase the item, and returned the unwrapped item to Starbucks.
