The annual Refugee and Immigrant Volunteer Summit was held virtually this year and attend by participants throughout central Virginia.

Richmond’s annual Refugee and Immigrant Volunteer Summit (RAIVS) was held February 7th-11th.    Organized by the IRC in Richmond, ReEstablish Richmond, and Sacred Heart Center, the summit focused on strengthening allyship through education and professional development with a goal of sharing knowledge, resources, connections, and training on welcoming recently arrived refugee families. This year’s event was fully virtual with over 160 attendees from across the state engaging in sessions led by professionals. Topics included best practices in working with refugees, language access, immigration legal status, cultural competence, wellness and burnout, and the resettlement experience throughout central Virginia. All proceeds from admission went to benefit IRC Virginia, ReEstablish Richmond, and Sacred Heart Center. Check out some of our recorded sessions, and don’t forget to be on the lookout for next year’s event!
