Earthquakes strike a country already in crisis
- Two earthquakes measuring 7.5 and 7.2 struck Venezuela on June 24, 2026, killing at least 188 people and injuring over 1,500.
- Before the earthquakes, nearly 8 million people in Venezuela were already in urgent humanitarian need.
- The IRC has worked in Venezuela since 2021, reaching more than 75,000 people with vital assistance in 2025 alone.
- Cuts to global humanitarian funding are limiting the response. The IRC is calling on the international community to urgently scale up support.
