Location: Hybrid - Sacramento, CA 
Duration: Internships require a commitment of 4 months, 15 hours/week, or minimum of 240 hours total.

SCOPE OF WORK: 

 The Anti-Trafficking Outreach Intern is responsible for working as part of IRC Sacramento’s HOPE (Human trafficking Outreach, Prevention, and Education) Anti-Trafficking Program. Through trauma-informed, client-centered, intensive case management and financial direct assistance, survivors of labor and sex trafficking are supported on their path to safety, security, and self-sufficiency.  Additionally, IRC conducts targeted direct outreach to vulnerable populations, including persons experiencing homelessness and migrant farmworkers.  

The day-to-day of AT internships is fast-paced and offers a hands-on experience into the world of U.S. counter-trafficking efforts. Interns receive training in the legal framework, identification of victims, and the human rights-based approach in service delivery. The internship is focused on supporting the training and outreach efforts of the Anti-Trafficking team and reports to the Anti-Trafficking Supervisor

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

General responsibilities could include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Maintain up to date knowledge and understanding of human trafficking laws, regulations, and local issues relating to human trafficking;  
  • Identity community partners with whom IRC can support, including youth-serving organizations in the greater Sacramento area;  
  • Assist with updating and data entry in reporting trackers;  
  • Identify new resources and build partnerships with coalition members and providers and work to connect clients to available resources;  
  • Attend local coalition meetings and participate in coalition events and trainings;  
  • Assist other volunteers and interns associated with the program;  
  • Travel in and around the service delivery area (Sacramento and the larger Northern California region) to deliver and coordinate services; 
  • Attend tabling events with the team to support outreach; 
  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and fully engages as a member of the team;  
  • Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency;  
  • Provide direct services and case management support, in coordination with the Anti-Trafficking Caseworkers, to victims of human trafficking to ensure acute needs are met in a timely and culturally appropriate manner as needed;
  • Maintain program documentation to conform to grant requirements as well as to reflect the needs of the individual client, including the maintenance of clear and concise case notes and client case files; 
  • Other related duties as assigned.   

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

  • Previous multi-cultural experience and demonstrated ability to communicate well with people of varied backgrounds strongly preferred; 
  • Previous case management and/or victim assistance experience preferred; 
  • 1+ years of related professional experience, preferably with vulnerable populations in a social service non-profit setting preferred; 
  • Prior experience using data and tracking systems is strongly preferred; 
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration across all of IRC’s programs.  
  • Driving is preferred but not required, work-related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the charitable mileage rate; 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required; 
  • Spanish-speaker strongly preferred; 
  • Availability during IRC’s standard business hours (Monday – Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM) is required.
