SCOPE OF ROLE: The Auto Purchase Volunteer will be responsible for assisting clients with the purchase of new-to-them vehicles. Volunteers will accompany clients to the seller/dealer to assist with the process of purchasing the vehicle. The support of volunteers will provide comfort and assistance to clients during a notoriously complicated process and help them attain a vehicle that will expand their access to resources and further their resettlement success!

COMMITMENT: 

  • Days and times: flexible based on seller/dealer operating hours and client/volunteer availability
  • Frequency: intermittent (may be monthly or less)
  • Hours: typically 2-3 hours dependent upon seller/dealer

LOCATION: Client home (typically Richmond city or Henrico) greater Richmond area

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Pick up client from their house and transport to seller/dealer
  • Clients will have secured financing through IRC - at this stage they may be looking at cars and test driving, but some clients may already have a car picked out
  • Assist with signing documents and answering client questions
  • Provide general social and logistical support
  • Provide client-centered and client-directed work, supporting clients through process rather than making decisions on their behalf

REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Outgoing personality
  • Comfort working with car sellers/dealers
  • Experience with buying a car a plus
  • Focus on client-centered and client-directed work
  • Willingness to support client as they go through process rather than making decisions on behalf of the client
  • Ability to adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries, confi dentiality, COVID-19, etc.
