Responsibilities 

  • Support basic resettlement services, under the guidance of IRC staff, including, but not limited to:
  • Airport pickups
  • Home visits
  • Food deliveries and orientation to grocery shopping in-store and online
  • Public transportation orientation
  • Interpretation for IRC staff
  • Public benefit applications or follow-up
  • Apartment setups
  • Distribution of donated goods

Qualifications and Expectations:

  • Commitment to fostering independence and self-sufficiency among newly arriving refugees, SIVs, Afghan humanitarian parolees
  • Willingness to participate in training on effective interpretation, the IRC standards of professional conduct, equity and power in resettlement, among other important topics
  • Bilingual Dari and Pashto speakers will be prioritized
  • Availability to volunteer Monday through Friday during business hours (additional evening and weekend availability is a plus, but must have weekday, daytime availability)
  • Ability to respond with short notice to on-call volunteer needs through June 2022
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required
  • Has a car and is able to drive locally. Must have a good driving record to apply.
  • Willingness to provide in-person services to IRC clients and follow all required health protocols
