Program:
Resident Leadership Academy (RLA) is a training program for El Cajon residents who want to learn how to improve their local communities. The program is a multi-week training that focuses on topics such as community leadership, healthy food system, crime prevention and safety and land use and active transportation. Upon graduation, residents will develop a Community Improvement Project (Action Plan).
Summary:
The Civic Engagement Assistant will help with the Resident Leadership Academy program. The main duties will include:
- Assist the RLA trainer by teaching and presenting the RLA sessions on a monthly basis.
- Support the RLA graduates in implementing their Community Improvement Project (Action Plan)
- Represent the IRC in RLA Council meetings and community events as needed.
- Conduct research, compile data, and produce regular written and oral reports.
- Assist with the outreach, build a community network and resources.
Qualifications:
- Passion for community engagement
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of community connections and resources preferable
- Patient
- Able to communicate with clients who speak different languages.
- Arabic language skills required
Training and Preparation:
- General Volunteer Orientation (1 hour)
- One-on-one staff training
