SCOPE OF ROLE: The Civics Class Instructor Volunteer will assist the adult education team in expanding program capacity and offerings by teaching an online civics class. Instructions will be given a curriculum, pacing guide, and access to Zoom. This role will help students prepare for their citizenship test and learn important parts of US history and culture.
COMMITMENT:
- Days and times: Tuesdays and/or Thursdays, 6:00-7:30pm
- Frequency: weekly
- Hours: 1.5 hour per shift
LOCATION: Remote (Zoom)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Host Zoom meetings: share screen, use the chat feature, and track participant attendance
- Utilize a curriculum website to present lessons to a class
- Encourage student participation, answer questions, and work with other instructors or team members to provide instruction
- Communicate regularly with staff on progress, attendance, and program quality
REQUIREMENTS:
- Familiarity with digital technology, especially Zoom
- Excellent communication skills
- Organization skills with attention to detail
- Ability to set and maintain firm boundaries with students on the scope of role and expertise
- Teaching experience preferred
- Ability to adhere to IRC professional standards and volunteer policies including those around boundaries, confidentiality, COVID-19, etc.
