Background: IRC helps people whose lives and livelihoods are shattered by conflict and disaster to survive, recover and gain control of their future. IRC teams provide health, infrastructure, learning and economic support to people in 50+ countries worldwide. The IRC also supports thousands of refugees and survivors of human trafficking in 29 U.S. cities each year through initial housing assistance; case management and referral services; job readiness and placement; community and cultural orientation; health and wellness programs; immigration services; and youth programs.
Scope of Internship
The Washington Immigrant Information Center (WA-Immigrant.Info) is a new digital information services program for refugees and immigrants across the State. The Content Creator Intern will support in developing digital content that is easy to understand, culturally appropriate, and multi-lingual that will be published on the website and publicly accessible. Content may include social media posts (carousels, reels, stories, etc.) and/or video content (short-form based on existing articles).
Location
Remote-based internship. You would have the opportunity to collaborate virtually with a fully-remote team working to support immigration communities across Washington State. You must be physically present in the United States to volunteer/intern.
Time Commitment
Flexible. The program can support 1 intern up to 20 hours/weekly and as many as 3 interns up to 5 hours/weekly. Coordination would be done M-F, 9am-5pm; while, direct content creation work can be done any time. Minimum 3-6 month time commitment.
Essential Position Functions
- Ensure content is accurate, complete, easy to understand and engaging
- Collaborate on, edit written and multimedia content built by team
- Use the translation-management software and other tools to prepare content for publication
Requirements:
- Must be culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse backgrounds; previous cross-cultural communication experience a plus
- Personal or professional experience (or relevant completed course work) in multimedia journalism, digital communications, or relevant field.
- Minimum 1+ year of reporting, writing, and editing experience, including for online platforms and social media
- Good understanding of the digital landscape, social media platforms and what makes digital content work.
- Knowledge of graphic design software and photo editing.
- Knowledge of immigration and refugee issues; previous work experience in the immigration field desired.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and high emotional intelligence.
- Ability to work independently with remote management.
- Fluency in English required
- Demonstrated ability to work cross-culturally with empathy, humility, and confidentiality.
