SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:

This position is responsible for improving the lives of refugees and engaging community members through supporting the Donations Coordinator. Specifically, for sourcing, tracking and reporting cash-in-kind donations. This role entails refining the inventory, tracking, valuation and distribution systems for the donations received by the IRC in Turlock. The Donations Coordination Intern will be in charge of recruitment and receiving of donations, while also ensuring donors receive the proper acknowledgement for their contribution. The Donations Coordination Intern will lead the distribution of donations to clients in collaboration with caseworkers to ensure proper tracking and reporting are carried out.

Turlock Office and Virtual 

Time Commitment: 

Interns-a minimum of 15-20 hours to be completed during business hours 9a-5p, M-F. Volunteers- a minimum of 3 hrs weekly virtual or in person. In person hours to be completed during business hours M-F 9am-5pm. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with clients and staff to identify different client needs.
  • Create community facing information to increase the flow of targeted donations.
  • Collect donations. Distribute goods as available.
  • Organize donation drives in coordination with staff.
  • Increase community participation and empowerment in IRC Sacramento.
  • Keep dynamic records using CRMs, Salesforce and other programs.
  • Maintain online donation portals and keep up to date.
  • Work with local vendors to establish donations and sponsorships.
  • Source, track and report in-kind contributions.
  • Improve and streamline in-kind donations receiving, valuation, record keeping, reporting and acknowledgements.
  • Collaborate across departments with staff, volunteers, community partners, and clients.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Outlook (Word, Excel, Box helpful)
  • Excellent interpersonal relations skills: the ability to work effectively with partners, donors, colleagues in a cross cultural, multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time & meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to work across departments towards measurable outcomes.
  • Strong writing and communication and public speaking skills including experience working in and developing teams.
  • Must be confident and comfortable speaking with clients and community partners on the phone and in person.
  • Valid driver’s license and a vehicle with valid insurance are required.

This position reports to the Volunteer and Donations Coordinator. 

This is an unpaid internship.  

Placement is reliant on completion of a background check donation cost of $40. 

Work related driving is eligible for reimbursement at the charitable mileage rate. 

Internships are available for current college students, graduate students, and graduates less than 2 years post-graduation. Course credit and transcript notation are available if the student submits the appropriate paperwork to the Volunteer Coordinator.
