Position Summary 

The Financial Capabilities Facilitator Volunteer will support the Financial Capabilities program by delivering a financial literacy and empowerment curriculum designed for women. Volunteers will facilitate virtual presentations in participants' preferred languages, administer pre- and post-session assessments and help create an engaging and supportive learning environment.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about financial education, women's empowerment, and serving refugee and immigrant communities. 

 

Time Commitment 

  • Lead one 2-hour financial literacy session per week (four sessions per month - approximately 8 hours monthly) 
  • Volunteers should be prepared to commit to a consistent monthly schedule 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Facilitate financial literacy presentations in one of the following languages: Spanish, Dari, Pashto, Amharic, Haitian Creole or Arabic 
  • Administer pre- and post-session assessments during each presentation 
  • Create an engaging, welcoming, and interactive virtual learning environment 
  • Attend any required volunteer orientation or training sessions 
  • Coordinate with Financial Capabilities staff regarding scheduling and curriculum materials 

 

Program Structure 

  • Financial Capabilities staff will manage participant outreach, registration, attendance confirmation and virtual meeting administration. 
  • Volunteers will not contact clients directly and will not receive or have access to participant personal information. 
  • Financial Capabilities staff will serve as administrators of the virtual platform and facilitate participant access to sessions. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Fluency in English and at least one of the following languages: Spanish, Dari, Pashto, Amharic, Haitian Creole or Arabic 
  • Operational language proficiency required in order to provide a training focus on budgeting, banking, savings, finance goals, etc.  
  • Personal experience or knowledge related to budgeting, banking, savings, financial goal setting or other personal finance topics 
  • Strong presentation and communication skills 
  • Comfortable facilitating discussions and leading groups 
  • Interest in supporting refugee, immigrant and humanitarian communities 
  • Experience working with diverse cultural communities  

 

Location 

  • Volunteers must be located within the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia (DMV) region and be available to visit the office as needed for training, meetings, or program support.
