Description: Front Desk Volunteers are the face of the IRC, they are often the first people that are seen and spoken to by clients, staff, and other volunteers. People in this role greet anyone who walks into our office, answer phone calls, and direct all clients to the appropriate staff member. 

Volunteers at the front desk interact with more clients than in any other opportunity within our office. Through these interactions, volunteers will gain skills in communication, understanding, and multi-tasking. Additionally, at the front desk you will learn more about the varied programs and services offered by the IRC in Phoenix.

The best fit for this position is personable, patient, flexible and a problem solver. Our staff is busy, which means we are not always accessible to those who walk or call-in, so it is crucial to providing a friendly space to ensure people feel welcome. Training will be provided in person on your first shift. 

 

Time Commitment: Minimum 3-month commitment, between 5-8 hours/week.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Greet walk-ins, usually IRC clients, donors or volunteers and direct them to appropriate staff
  • Direct phone calls that come through the general IRC number
  • Utilize resources available, including the resource manual, online training and IRC staff to answer questions that come up throughout your shift 

 

Requirements: 

  • Weekly or bi-weekly shift on Monday-Friday either 9am-5pm, 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm.
  • Comfortable with saying no and asking questions
  • Prior experience working with various language speakers preferred, but not required. Comfortable with using language interpretation, training will be provided.
  • Passionate about refugee services and culturally sensitive
  • Willing to learn about the IRC and our wide variety of programs
  • Reliable and communicative of any schedule changes at least 24 hours prior to scheduled shifts
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple tasks//situations simultaneously in a complex environment.
  • Able to handle confidential client information appropriately
