SCOPE OF INTERN WORK:
The Grants Intern will support the Central Valley Grants Teamby helping research potential funding opportunities and assisting with administrative aspects of the grant lifecycle. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to learn how nonprofit organizations secure funding and support their programs, with exposure to grant development, research, and administrative support.
Location:
Virtual, Turlock and Sacramento Office
Time Commitment:
Interns- 15hrs/week for at least 4 months. Longer volunteer commitments encouraged.
Volunteers- minimum 4hrs/week for at least 4 months. Longer volunteer commitments encouraged.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Build practical skills in grant research, prospecting, and administrative support
- Understand the full lifecycle of grant funding, from identification to post-award management
- Strengthen data management and analysis skills using tools like Asana
- Develop an understanding of how an international humanitarian organization operates
Responsibilities
- Researching, reviewing, and summarizing potential grant opportunities
- Assisting with data entry and analysis to support grant management and reporting
- Organizing and maintaining electronic grant files and documentation
- Tracking and monitoring of projects on Asana to ensure compliance
- Developing detailed profiles of prospective grantmakers and funding sources
- Creating and updating boilerplate content for proposals
- Assisting with the creation of training materials for staff
- Assisting in the writing and editing of grant proposals
- Providing overall support to the Grants Team as needed
Skills/Qualifications
- This internship is for undergraduate students, graduate students, or recent college graduates
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong intercultural communications skills; demonstrated ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and across language barriers
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and confidence in basic computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, and email communication
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable working in high stress environments
- Passion for creating equitable opportunities for refugees, immigrants, and people of color
- Passion for the IRC’s mission and commitment to humanitarian principles
- Willingness to adhere to IRC volunteer and workplace policies
- Experience with grant writing and research tools is a plus
